Hi, I’m Susan Davis, I moved from Washington, DC where I worked for National Public Radio and Marketplace for a decade, to Chapel Hill, NC to redesign “The State of Things” a live, information, arts and culture program on North Carolina Public Radio/WUNC. I was the Senior Producer of that program for almost 9 years, branding the show as North Carolina’s premier audio storytelling showcase. Since 2013, I have worked as a cultural diplomat for the State Department of the U.S., traveling to 8 countries, teaching podcasting, audio storytelling and community engagement through audio storytelling. I’ve been a podcast consultant, freelance podcast producer, visiting professor, news writer and editor, events producer and communications strategist.
Meet my professional partner, Aaron Keane. Aaron came to Chapel Hill from New York City to work with Trailblazer Studios in Raleigh. He is an accomplished audio professional with over 20 years of experience, from engineering the work of Grammy winning artists Shawn Colvin and Mos Def to writing and producing music for Emmy award winning documentaries, “A Year in Space” and “Twice Born,” to audio post production on dozens of podcasts.
As a team, Aaron and I have worked together on podcasts ranging from “Can These Bones” from Duke Divinity School to Garden & Gun Magazine’s “Whole Hog.” We are committed to collaboration — we work with our clients to flesh out and firm up ideas, and to create an efficient production schedule that includes every aspect of content development, recording, editing and mixing. We pride ourselves on being collaborative and transparent and delivering to the client exactly what they want. We are also nimble, able to assist our clients when they have advanced audio storytelling and technical skills, and able to do the heavy lifting when they don’t have these skills. Along the way, we strive to teach and inspire our clients to master the art and science of audio storytelling to whatever degree they desire. We believe in transparency and communication, working closely to meet every deadline and deliverable with confidence and grace. We are fully a team, although my expertise is in content/editorial and Aaron’s is in technical/sound design. Together we have a winning stereo set of ears.
